Welcome to Brafield-on-the-Green, our small village on the outskirts of Northampton. For the last two years we have hosted an Open Garden Event welcoming several hundred people to enjoy visiting some of our gardens, and to experience the Church Flower Festival which has been running since 1976.
This year we are not so much Brafield-in-Bloom as Brafield-in-Blooming-Lockdown! Our gardens are receiving maximum attention and while they are already looking beautiful - we were disappointed we could not share them with visitors.
So, we decided that this year we would have a virtual event and share the beauty that surrounds us with a wider audience. We particularly hope that those of you who do not have access to gardens and the countryside at the moment will enjoy following the seasons with us and that everyone will leave our website feeling uplifted.
We have asked everyone in the village to send us their photos; some of us are more skilled at photography than others, but everywhere there are spring blossoms which will look beautiful and raise our spirits, and we have had a good response which you can see on the Spring button. On 10 June our Summer button will go live and show how our gardens have developed over the last few weeks.
The photos are shown in video form but if you would like to look at an individual photo for longer just click on it and the video will pause.
This year we were going to donate the proceeds of our Open Gardens to Stand up to Cancer in memory of Chris Pittams. Chris ran the Pop-up Tea Room at village events and her refreshments were legendary; she worked hard and tirelessly raising a lot of money for the village. Last year Chris was taken from us suddenly and swiftly by a very aggressive cancer and we all miss her very much.
If you have enjoyed your visit to Brafield-in-Bloom, please consider making a donation to Stand up to Cancer (Chris's chosen charity) through the Just Giving link.
Thank you for coming to see us please come again soon - and we hope that in 2021 we may see you in person!
